Website Development Checklist
Key Steps to Get Started for Beginners
Basic Essential Setup
- Decide on a unique domain name (e.g., www.yourwebsite.com) that’s easy to remember and relevant to your business.
- Register the domain through a provider like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains.
- Hosting and SSL certificates are provided by Greenmor. Server options (India and USA) are made available as per website’s target audience.
Note: Greenmor does not provide domain registrations with any of its plans. We insist that the ownership of your domain should be with you. We do provide assistance in domain registration.
Branding
- Provide high quality logo in various formats (png, jpeg, svg or even animated logos) and variations (dark, light and transparent).
- Choose 2–4 brand colors that will appear consistently throughout your website.
- Decide on font combination for heading and body text.
Note: Try our color palette and font styler to get variations and ideas for your website branding based on your logo or inspiring images. You can also get customised logo developed by Greenmor.
Content And Copywriting
- Largely, websites should have a homepage, an about us page, and a contact us page. Aditionally, an FAQs page and Blog/Resource pages are important.
- Content on any page should begin with a catchy headline (add keywords), a short description followed with other content.
- Your stories, history, mission and vision statements, client testimonials, and key selling points lay the foundation for your website. Make sure your writing strikes the right cord with your audience.
- If you’re building and e-commerce website, then focusing on product descriptions and titles become equally important. Try our custom gpt to generate product details based on your product image (it’s free for unlimited usage).
- Have clear call-to-actions, like “Contact Us,” “Shop Now,” “Book a Consultation,” etc.
Note: At Greenmor, we provide content that resonates your brand style and builds authenticity with your customers. We keep in mind the technicalities of SEO as well, not letting your website down on organic search.
Visual And Media Assets
- Collect high-resolution images (webp or avif formats work best) for your products, services, team, or office space, and organize them into folders by category.
- If you have specific icons in mind, gather or purchase them, or let the designer know your preferences.
- If using video, provide links or raw files for any welcome messages, product demonstrations, or testimonials. Consider hosting videos on platforms like YouTube or Vimeo if they’re too large for direct hosting.
Note: While designing websites, we make available license-free images/videos that are apt for your website. Please note that no exclusivity is guaranteed for such images/videos.
Features And Functionality
- Decide on the functionality you need such as forms (contact, booking, calculators, etc), e-commerce (payment gateway integration, shipping integration, courses, etc), newsletter signups (email marketing provider, CRM management, etc), LMS (course management), and or others.
- While simpler websites are easier to navigate, features like hotspots, image comparisions, pop-ups, tickers, mega-menus, chat integration, parallax and other designing components can increase user interactions on your website.
Note: Greenmor provides pre-built templates if you want to build on your own, as well as custom designing if you want a unique website.
Other Items
- You will require privacy policy, terms and conditions, cookies, returns and refunds, and shipping and delivery pages (defined as per the type of website).
- An email account (preferably on your domain) that will be connected to your forms, store and other features that send-replies to your customers, is necessary.
- Social media pages that have your logo, address, and other primary details. We suggest that you are active on atleast two platforms for your audience.
- If you are a local business, A Google Business Profile (check our single-page profile builder) will do you a world of good.
- Collect reviews, testimonials on your GMB profile/other platforms to showcase on your website. Build individual product reviews if you are building an e-commerce website.
- Setup Google Analytics, Shopping and other webmaster tools that will help you track your website performance, and reach out to a wider audience.
